I need to make a non-pf related post... because there's something on my mind that I can't stop thinking about. What is it? ....PAIN. Pain in my mouth, specifically.
Who knew the braces could get worse?! :p My teeth are finally straight, but now I get to suffer through the torture of rubber bands aka elastics (to align my bite). I wish someone would've warned me this was coming. To those of you about to get braces - here's your warning! ;p
Anyway, there's my little braces update for the month. I have about 4 months to go, although I'm hoping the time will be cut in half (since the teeth are straight, and the bite is all that's left to take care of... maybe only a month left?). And I guess it's an exaggeration to call it pain... more like aching. Constant aching and pressure. Similar to the spacers; maybe not quite as bad. I know I'll get used to it, and apparently it's going to happen "fast." But man, is it unpleasant! Is there anyone out there I can pay to give me a gum massage? :p

I felt pain in my mouth just reading that post.
I remember braces. I had so many days of feeling icky and gross, or having my mouth cut up.. awful..
Aww the memories, it's been years but you never forget. Unfortunately when I hit my 20's my wisdom teeth tried to come in, by bottom teeth are crooked again. I hope the pain stops soon, just think of the pretty smile.
I remember the day. But it is well worth it. My children one has a retainer now and the other still in braces always say that want their teeth to be like mine. If I have nothing else going for me I have STRAIGHT teeth.
My orthodontist gave me unusual advice--he said that after each tightening or adjustment, we should go eat a fast food burger. The chewiness helped work out some of the achiness. It sounds weird but it totally worked!
As a former braces wearer who did not wear her retainer properly--do yourself a favor and wear the retainer. What's even worse than what you're going through right now is to go through it and then skip on the retainer and then have CROOKED TEETH later!
@FB: Braces are... evil!!! *shakes her fist at them* <.<
@Miss M: I'm happy with how straight they are now, I don't even care about bite alignment... but I have to keep reminding myself how much money I've paid (and am paying) and that I want to get the complete treatment. <.<
@becomingdebtfree: Yeah, it'll be nice to have the braces off and permanently straight teeth. :)
@Little Miss Moneybags: What sucks is that one of my rubber bands is at the front of my mouth and goes across my front to bottom teeth. She said I can just wear it at home, and I (obviously) have to take it out when I'm eating, but then I get paranoid because the assistant said the teeth can start reverting back to their original place if you leave it out for 40 mins... so I keep not wanting to take it out or eat. :p Which reminds me, I have it out right now!! Ack. I hate this taking out/putting back in thing. At least with the spacers, I could leave them in all the time, and they did their thing in 2 weeks.
Im scared. I went to the cosmetic dentist I had to see before the orthodontist and he said we're in for a long lond road. And I hate things in my mouth. But think of how pretty its going to look and how you can dazzle the judge with your smile!
@Serendipity: Sorry to scare you! I'm a big baby when it comes to mouth pain, so keep that in mind. ;) I've had the braces in for a little over 4 months, and I would say 3 weeks of it in total were really bad (the week I had the spacers in, the first week I had the braces, and this week... with the elastics). And yes, it'll all be worth it in the end!! :D
Yesterday it was acne, today it's braces ... are you secretly an eighth-grader?? :D
I had braces at 13 and then again at 33 thanks to some wonky wisdom teeth. The thing is, if they don't correct your bite, then one set of teeth can knock the others askew, like my two top front teeth turned in a bit (which looked really weird in pictures). I got them off over 5 years ago and wear my retainers most nights.
I got the most BIZARRE attention from men...they got all nostalgic about the first girl they ever had a crush on. How cute is that?
Eeek, sorry to hear your mouth is sore. I remember having that pain in high school with braces. It gets better, promise.
@Kate: ha...ha... funny. :p My teeth were actually much nicer when I was an 8th grader (pesky wisdom teeth made them crooked), but my skin is much nicer now (though, at 25, it SHOULD be near perfect!! Which is why I'll shell out $300+ on cream :p). I'm not sure about any special attention from men, but I do get weird looks a lot of the time... people can't figure out my age.
@Bayjb: I really shouldn't complain, I guess... I keep hearing about people who had the braces on for years, and I'm only having to endure months. I'll just have to eat lots of chocolate to distract myself. ;)
I'm sorry you are in so much pain!
I am actually using invisalign right now. They are more expensive then braces but I can tell they are working and there is almost no pain. Just a little pressure.
And now I'm sorry I just told you I'm not.
@asgreen: I wanted invisalign, but the ortho told me they wouldn't make my teeth perfect... so I went with braces. They're the clear type, so at least they don't look so bad. But yeah, it would be great to be without pain right now!! @_@
